History of Southampton Ki Society

Roger Packman began practising Aikido in January 1980. When he read Tohei Sensei’s books about Ki and Aikido a short while later, he realised that the physical style of Aikido he had been learning, with no emphasis on using Ki power, was very different to the art described by Tohei Sensei.

He therefore began studying Ki Aikido in the spring of that year, and formed the Southampton Ki Society in 1984.

Southampton Ki Society has been affiliated to the Ki Society, Japan ever since.

Our purpose has always been to provide authentic Ki and Ki Aikido training, through membership of the Ki Society.

Southampton Ki Society is part of the UK Ki Federation, which was formed by the only UK clubs to be officially recognised by the Ki Society.
